Ulsan: Three workers were rescued unconscious from beneath a collapsed boiler tower at a thermal power plant in Ulsan, as reported by firefighting officials. The incident occurred at the Ulsan branch of Korea East-West Power Co., a state-owned utility firm, involving a total of seven trapped workers.
According to Yonhap News Agency, one worker was confirmed dead earlier in the day, and another is feared dead, leaving two individuals still trapped. Initially, the number of trapped workers was reported as nine, but two were rescued shortly after the collapse.
The deceased worker, aged 44, was declared dead around 5 a.m. after experiencing cardiac arrest during rescue attempts. Kim Jeong-sik, an official at the Ulsan Nambu fire station, stated that a rescue worker administered painkillers and took measures to maintain the worker's body temperature, but he ultimately succumbed. The other worker found alongside him proved challenging to extract and is presumed dead.
