Yoon’s approval rating sinks to lowest point since taking office

President Yoon Suk Yeol's approval rating fell to 23 percent, marking its lowest level since taking office in May 2022, following his party's crushing defeat in last week's general elections, a poll showed Friday. The survey, conducted by the polling agency Gallup Korea, showed that the positive assessment of Yoon's performance plunged 11 percentage points from the previous week, while 68 percent of respondents disapproved of his performance, up 10 percentage points. Yoon's handling of medical school quotas, foreign policy and the economy were cited as reasons for the negative assessment. The approval ratings of the ruling People Power Party (PPP), the main opposition Democratic Party and the Rebuilding Korea Party came to 30 percent, 31 percent and 14 percent, respectively. The PPP's approval rating plunged 7 percentage points from a week before, also marking its lowest point under the Yoon administration. The poll was conducted on 1,000 adults from Tuesday to Thursday and had a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points. Source: Yonhap News Agency
