Seoul: In a dramatic turn of events, President Yoon Suk Yeol has declined the resignation offer from Army Chief Gen. Park An-su, who has been at the center of the recent martial law declaration controversy. Gen. Park submitted his resignation to former Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun following the president's sudden imposition of emergency martial law. The president, however, refused to accept the resignation. According to Yonhap News Agency, Gen. Park was appointed to lead the martial law command shortly after President Yoon's unexpected declaration of emergency martial law late Tuesday. The martial law was, however, short-lived as it was lifted within hours when the opposition-controlled National Assembly voted against it. Gen. Park disclosed his offer to resign during an emergency session of the parliamentary defense committee, stating that he had submitted the offer the previous day. President Yoon's decision to reject the resignation was based on the current security landscape, as cited by the president ial office. "Yoon stressed the need for stable military operations amid the grave security situation and urged the Army chief of staff to fully focus on his duties," a senior presidential official stated. The decision underscores the president's focus on maintaining military stability in a tense environment.
