Seoul: A forum hosted by Yonhap News Agency, South Korea's leading news service, explored new opportunities for deeper economic cooperation with African countries Friday amid increasing global trade uncertainties. Under the theme "Rediscovering Africa: Leaping Forward Together with South Korea," the event emphasized expanding partnerships in sectors like mineral resources, ICT, and healthcare.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the second Future Economic Forum, co-hosted with the Korea-Africa Foundation, aimed to identify strategies for collaboration in infrastructure, digital technology, energy, and cultural exchanges beyond traditional trade. Yonhap President and CEO Hwang Dae-il highlighted the need for cooperation in cutting-edge technologies amid shifting global economic dynamics.

In a message delivered by Lee Kyu-youn, President Lee Jae Myung emphasized Africa's growing significance as an economic hub with its vast resources and youthful population. The forum, occurring just before the G20 summit in South Africa, gathered officials, experts, and diplomats to discuss strategies for cooperation and addressing key challenges.

Industry Minister Kim Jung-kwan urged for increased collaboration, noting Africa's potential despite its current minor role in South Korea's trade. SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won advocated for a shift from traditional export models to "soft money" industries, with Africa as a promising partner.

The forum featured speeches from influential figures such as Wamkele Keabetswe Mene and Mbongiseni Buthelezi, reflecting on South Korea's economic journey as a model for Africa. Attendees included Moroccan Ambassador Chafik Rachadi and other diplomatic representatives, underscoring the commitment to strengthening ties between South Korea and Africa.
