Seoul: South Korea's key news service Yonhap News Agency and international charity Save the Children organized a fundraising marathon on Saturday, aiming to assist children of migrant workers and enhance public awareness of children's rights. Around 3,000 participants, including children, ran a 4.2-kilometer course in Yeouido Park located in western Seoul to support children with migrant backgrounds who encounter challenges in accessing medical care, education, and other child care services.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the marathon was not solely about running. Yonhap News Agency President and CEO Hwang Dae-il emphasized this in his congratulatory remarks, which were delivered by Kim Jae-hong, an executive director at the agency. "Your heartfelt effort and participation in today's running will serve as an encouragement to children who are struggling far away," he conveyed. Gabriel Taeyoung Jung, CEO of Save the Children Korea, pledged to ensure that "all children are protected without discrimination and can grow up healthy regardless of their backgrounds."
The event has seen about 110,000 participants since its inception in 2011. This year, the marathon took place simultaneously in four other cities, including Daejeon and Busan, and is set to continue in 11 regions throughout October.
