Xi Jinping Congratulates Kim Jong-un on Reelection, Vows to Strengthen Ties

Beijing: Chinese President Xi Jinping has extended a congratulatory letter to North Korean leader Kim Jong-un following his reelection as the general secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea. In his message, Xi expressed his intention to enhance strategic cooperation between China and North Korea, as reported by a Chinese news outlet.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Xi's congratulatory telegram was sent after Kim Jong-un was reaffirmed as the head of the ruling party during the ongoing party congress. Xi commended Kim for making progress in building a socialist state in Korea and noted that Kim's reelection signifies the high level of trust and support he enjoys from the party, government, and citizens.

Xi highlighted the relationship between China and North Korea as one between "friendly socialist neighbors," and reiterated China's steadfast commitment to nurturing and advancing their bilateral ties. He also recalled his recent discussions with Kim, urging both countries to implement the significant agreements reached during those meetings to foster a new era in their relations.

Previously, the Korean Central News Agency had reported that Kim Jong-un was reelected to the top party position on the fourth day of the ninth party congress.
