Seoul: The KT Wiz announced Thursday the signing of former major league pitcher Davis Daniel to replace starter Matt Sauer, who has been struggling. Daniel, 29, will earn US$406,000 for the remainder of the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) season.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the American right-hander has appeared in 12 major league games, with his most recent stint being three games for the Atlanta Braves last year. This season, Daniel has been playing in Triple-A for the Cincinnati Reds, recording a 5-8 win-loss record with a 4.71 ERA in 19 appearances, including 18 starts.

Daniel's career in Triple-A includes 93 games, with a 26-37 record, a 5.31 ERA, and 408 strikeouts over 440 1/3 innings. The Wiz highlighted Daniel's consistent command and proven strikeout ability as key factors in their decision.

Daniel will be taking over from Sauer, who was the Wiz's Opening Day starter in March. Sauer exits the KBO with a 7-5 record and a 4.88 ERA in 18 starts. His performance has seen at least one run in every outing, with his worst performance being eight runs on 10 hits in just three innings against the Lotte Giants on Sunday.

This signing marks the second time the Wiz have replaced a foreign pitcher this season. In June, the team signed Logan Allen as a temporary substitute for injured pitcher Caleb Boushley. Allen was later given a full contract when Boushley's recovery from shoulder issues was delayed.

The Wiz are currently ranked second in the KBO, with a record of 55-36-2, trailing the Samsung Lions by 1 1/2 games. The team is fifth in the league with a 4.52 ERA.
