Vietnamese Foreign Minister Arrives in North Korea as Special Envoy for Leader

Pyongyang: Vietnam's top diplomat, Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung, has arrived in North Korea as a special envoy for the country's top leader, To Lam, according to Pyongyang's state media reports on Wednesday. Trung and his delegation landed in North Korea on Tuesday, as confirmed by the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).

According to Yonhap News Agency, the Vietnamese delegation was welcomed at Pyongyang International Airport by Vice Foreign Minister Pak Sang-gil and Vietnamese Ambassador to North Korea Le Ba Vinh. The purpose of Trung's visit has not been disclosed by KCNA, but it is anticipated that he will brief North Korean officials on recent political developments in Vietnam. This includes Lam's continuation as the Communist Party general secretary and his concurrent presidency.

The visit has sparked speculation about Vietnam's potential role as a mediator in inter-Korean relations, especially following South Korean President Lee Jae Myung's visit to Vietnam last month. This visit is part of the growing ties between North Korea and Vietnam, which have been gaining momentum since Lam's trip to Pyongyang in October last year. Lam's visit marked the first by a Vietnamese top leader in 18 years, during which he held summit talks with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and attended celebrations for the 80th anniversary of the Workers' Party of Korea's founding.
