Vice foreign ministers of S. Korea, Russia to hold talks this week
SEOUL, The vice foreign ministers of South Korea and Russia will hold talks in Seoul this week over bilateral relations and recent developments on the Korean Peninsula, Seoul's foreign ministry said Thursday.
Vice Foreign Minister Lim Sung-nam and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Titov are set to hold the 6th strategic dialogue on Friday morning.
"The two sides will have broad discussions over the development of South Korea-Russia relations, recent peninsula situations and key international and regional issues, so as to strengthen bilateral strategic communication," Noh Kyu-duk, the ministry spokesman, said during a press briefing.
The meeting comes amid a flurry of diplomacy aimed at ending North Korea's nuclear program and establishing a lasting peace on the peninsula.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov is currently in Pyongyang at the invitation of North Korean Foreign Minister Ri Yong-ho to discuss issues of mutual concern and developments unfolding around the peninsula.
