Veteran journalist Fred Rosario writes 30
Veteran newsman Alfredo "Fred" Gutierrez-Rosario succumbed to cardiac arrest last Sunday at the Philippine Heart Center in Quezon City. Fred was supposed to celebrate his 88th birthday today, March 22.
His last newspaper stint was as opinion editor of the Manila Times, where he also wrote the column "Reflections."
Born in San Carlos City, Pangasinan, Fred wrote for and edited various pre-Martial Law newspapers like the Philippines Herald and Evening News, and later Times Journal as night editor. He was also senior editor of the Philippine News Service, the predecessor of the present-day Philippines News Agency.
He was married to now deceased Brigida Ferrer-Rosario of Calasiao, Pangasinan. He was also the father of the late Virgilio Rosario, who worked as media relations officer of Senator Loren Legarda; and the late Alfredo Jr.
His remains lie at the Truth Chapel at Loyola Memorial Homes on Commonwealth Avenue, Quezon City. Burial will be announced later.
