Unionized Bus Drivers in Ulsan Poised to Begin Strike

Ulsan: Unionized bus drivers in the southeastern city of Ulsan are set to initiate a strike this weekend, according to union officials. The decision comes after discussions with management regarding a wage increase failed to reach a resolution.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the strike is anticipated to impact approximately 80 percent of the 889 buses that operate on 187 routes throughout the city. The strike is slated to begin with the first buses scheduled for 4 a.m. on Saturday. In response, Ulsan city officials are preparing to enhance alternative transportation options, such as taxis, and will inform the public if the strike proceeds as planned.

The strike is the result of unresolved differences between the unionized bus drivers and their management concerning the overhaul of the wage system. Despite engaging in more than a dozen meetings since March, both parties have been unable to reach a consensus. The last time the unionized bus drivers in Ulsan went on strike was in May 2019.
