Unification Minister Seeks EU Backing for Peace Initiatives on Korean Peninsula

Seoul: Unification Minister Chung Dong-young engaged in discussions with the European Union's (EU) Ambassador to South Korea, Ugo Astuto, on Wednesday to explore collaboration in establishing peace on the Korean Peninsula, according to the ministry.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Chung outlined the South Korean government's approach towards North Korea and the overarching aim of unification, which focuses on rebuilding trust with Pyongyang and fostering a peaceful atmosphere. The minister highlighted the necessity of dialogue and negotiations to achieve a peaceful environment, urging for active support from the international community and the EU in Seoul's peace efforts.

The EU ambassador expressed his perspectives on the peninsula's security scenario, affirming the EU's commitment to ongoing communication and cooperation in promoting peace in the region, as stated by the ministry.
