U.S. Reaffirms Openness to Dialogue with North Korea and Commitment to Denuclearization

Washington: The United States remains open to dialogue with North Korea "without preconditions" and committed to the "complete" denuclearization of the country, according to a State Department spokesperson. This announcement follows reports from Pyongyang's state media that North Korean leader Kim Jong-un recently visited a newly launched nuclear material production facility, where he pledged to "exponentially" enhance the country's nuclear capabilities.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the U.S. spokesperson emphasized the nation's willingness to engage in talks with North Korea without any preconditions, reiterating the commitment to achieving full denuclearization. This stance aligns with U.S. President Donald Trump's administration's ongoing efforts to reengage with North Korea, amidst growing concerns over the country's expanding nuclear and ballistic missile initiatives.

The North Korean visit, reported by the Korean Central News Agency, highlighted Kim Jong-un's inspection of the nuclear material production site, although specific details about the facility were not disclosed. In February, during a significant party congress, Pyongyang reaffirmed its status as an "irreversible" nuclear-armed state, outlining plans to bolster its nuclear deterrence through a five-year military modernization effort. Despite these developments, the U.S., along with Seoul and Tokyo, continues to emphasize their dedication to North Korea's denuclearization.
