Milan: Two-time Olympic short track relay champion Shim Suk-hee is set to make a determined comeback at the Milan-Cortina Olympics, marking her first appearance at the Winter Games in eight years. Having debuted at the 2014 Olympics with an impressive three-medal haul, including a gold in the women's 3,000-meter relay, Shim also secured another relay title at PyeongChang 2018. However, her journey took a tumultuous turn following revelations of abuse by her former coach and a subsequent suspension due to leaked derogatory messages about her teammates.

According to Yonhap News Agency, despite the setbacks, Shim has re-emerged in the competitive skating scene after finishing fourth in the Olympic trials last spring. Although she will only compete in the women's relay at this Olympics, Shim expressed her excitement and nervousness as she embraces the Olympic atmosphere once more, reflecting on her journey and preparing to compete with her team.

At 29, Shim is now one of the more experienced athletes on her team and hopes to mentor her younger teammates, much like the support she received early in her career. Her focus remains on delivering outstanding performances for her fans and demonstrating the unity and strength of her team.

Shim celebrated her 29th birthday just before departing for Italy, with a party organized by the Korean Sport and Olympic Committee at the athletes' village in Milan.
