Trump’s South Korea Visit Planned Before APEC Summit

Seoul: U.S. President Donald Trump is considering a visit to South Korea later this month ahead of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit, as revealed by sources on Saturday. Government insiders suggest that Trump might engage in bilateral summits with South Korea and China before the APEC meeting, scheduled to be held from October 31 to November 1 in Gyeongju, but may skip the main session of the summit.

According to Yonhap News Agency, a ruling party official mentioned, “President Trump is expected to arrive on October 29 and visit Gyeongju,” although his itinerary is still under negotiation between South Korea and the U.S. Prior to this, Trump is set to attend the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) summit in Kuala Lumpur from October 26 to 28, followed by a visit to Japan for discussions with the country’s new prime minister.

Diplomatic observers speculate that Trump is likely to travel to South Korea after his stop in Japan, potentially marking a one-day trip. However, the details regarding his departure following his arrival on October 29 remain unconfirmed, as noted by a government official.

Additionally, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent indicated that Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping are anticipated to have a “pull-aside” meeting in South Korea later this month. However, the possibility of Trump meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un during the APEC summit has been downplayed by a ruling party official.
