Trump Considers Iran’s Ceasefire Request Amid Strait of Hormuz Blockage

Washington: U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Wednesday that the president of Iran's new regime has requested a ceasefire from the United States. However, Trump stated that Washington would only consider this request once the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz is "open, free, and clear."

According to Yonhap News Agency, Trump's comments were made in a social media post following his recent indication that the ongoing U.S.-Israeli conflict with Iran could potentially conclude within two to three weeks. This development comes amid growing concerns over the conflict's effects on global oil prices and inflation.

Trump expressed in his Truth Social post that the new Iranian President is perceived as "much less Radicalized and far more intelligent than his predecessors," emphasizing the potential for a ceasefire. He stated, "We will consider when Hormuz Strait is open, free, and clear. Until then, we are blasting Iran into oblivion or, as they say, back to the Stone Ages!!!"

The conflict has significantly impacted the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial waterway responsible for about 20% of the world's oil supply. Iran's missile and drone strikes have effectively blocked the strait, exacerbating global economic concerns.

Despite the blockade, The Wall Street Journal reported that Trump has expressed willingness to end the war with Iran even if the strait remains obstructed. Trump's approach seems to prioritize economic stability over military objectives.

In a separate social media post on Tuesday, Trump urged countries affected by the blockade to either procure oil from the U.S. or "go to the strait and just take it," voicing his frustration over the lack of international support in the conflict against Iran.

Trump is scheduled to address the nation later on Wednesday to detail his administration's strategies and plans regarding the ongoing war with Iran.
