Beijing: U.S. President Donald Trump declared on Friday that the United States and China have reached "fantastic" trade agreements during his summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing. The meeting marked the conclusion of a two-day bilateral discussion aimed at strengthening economic ties between the two nations.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Trump made the announcement during a session with Xi at Zhongnanhai, a significant site within the central complex of China's top leadership. Although Trump did not provide specific details about the agreements, he mentioned in a Fox News interview that China has agreed to purchase substantial quantities of U.S. commodities, including soybeans, oil, liquefied natural gas, and 200 Boeing aircraft.

The meeting venue, Zhongnanhai, holds historical importance, as it was the location where former U.S. President Richard Nixon met with Chinese leader Mao Zedong in 1972, a pivotal moment in Sino-U.S. relations. Following their discussions, Trump and Xi were scheduled to continue talks over a luncheon at the same venue.

Trump's visit to Beijing included a notable delegation comprising top U.S. officials such as Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. Prominent American business leaders, including Elon Musk of SpaceX and Tesla, Jensen Huang of Nvidia, and Apple's Tim Cook, were also part of the entourage.

This trip marks Trump's first visit to China since November 2017. Prior to this summit, Trump and Xi last met in Busan, South Korea, in late October during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit. The current summit is anticipated to be the first of several potential meetings between the two leaders this year, with future discussions planned at the APEC summit in Shenzhen, China, in November, and the G20 gathering in Florida in December.

In a gesture of continued diplomacy, Trump extended an invitation to Xi and Chinese first lady Peng Liyuan to visit the White House in Washington on September 24, further signaling ongoing efforts to bolster U.S.-China relations.
