Washington: U.S. President Donald Trump announced that the United States successfully conducted a large-scale military operation in Venezuela, resulting in the capture of President Nicolas Maduro. This operation marks the culmination of Trump's administration's prolonged efforts against the Maduro regime.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Trump revealed the details of the operation through a social media post, emphasizing the involvement of U.S. law enforcement. Maduro, who has been accused by the U.S. administration of drug trafficking, now faces charges of narco-terrorism conspiracy and drug importation conspiracy, among others, as stated by U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi.

In response to the operation, the Venezuelan government declared a state of emergency, condemning the U.S. action as an "imperialist attack." The announcement included details of Maduro's capture alongside his wife, Cilia Flores, and their subsequent transport out of Venezuela.

Trump further elaborated on the military operation in an interview with The New York Times, describing it as a "brilliant operation" and commending the planning and execution by U.S. troops. The Southern District of New York has indicted Maduro and his wife on several charges, including possession of machine guns and conspiracy to possess destructive devices.

Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau expressed his views on social media, celebrating the capture as a new beginning for Venezuela and emphasizing that Maduro will face American justice. The operation follows months of increased pressure from the Trump administration, including airstrikes on drug-smuggling routes and a blockade of Venezuelan oil tankers.
