Trump Announces 5-Day Delay in U.S. Strikes on Iran Following ‘Productive’ Talks

Washington: U.S. President Donald Trump announced Monday that the United States and Iran engaged in "productive" discussions over the weekend aimed at resolving their ongoing conflict. As a result, Trump ordered a five-day postponement of military strikes on Iranian power plants.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Trump's announcement followed a previous ultimatum he issued on Saturday, in which he warned that the U.S. military would "obliterate" Iran's power plants if the country did not fully open the Strait of Hormuz within 48 hours. The Strait is a critical channel for global oil shipping, and its closure has raised international concerns.

In a statement posted on Truth Social, Trump expressed satisfaction with the discussions, stating, "I am pleased to report that the United States of America, and the country of Iran, have had, over the last two days, very good and productive conversations regarding a complete and total resolution of our hostilities in the Middle East."

Trump emphasized the constructive nature of the talks, noting that they would continue throughout the week. "Based on the tenor and tone of these in-depth, detailed, and constructive conversations, which will continue throughout the week, I have instructed the Department of War to postpone any and all military strikes against Iranian power plants and energy infrastructure for a five day period, subject to the success of the ongoing meetings and discussions," he added.

The decision to delay military action comes amid growing concerns about the potential impact of a U.S.-Iran conflict on global oil prices and inflation. The international community remains watchful as further discussions unfold between the two nations.
