Washington: Incoming U.S. President Donald Trump announced that he had "very good" phone talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping on Friday, focusing on trade and other significant issues, as Trump prepares to return to the White House next week.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Trump shared details of the conversation on social media, emphasizing his commitment to collaborate with Xi to promote global peace and safety. Trump is scheduled to assume office on Monday. In his post on Truth Social, Trump stated, "I just spoke to Chairman Xi Jinping of China. The call was a very good one for both China and the U.S.A. It is my expectation that we will solve many problems together, and starting immediately."

The discussion between the two leaders covered topics such as trade balance, the issue of fentanyl, and the social media platform TikTok. Trump emphasized the shared goal of making the world "more peaceful and safe," reiterating their intention to address these matters collaboratively.

Xi Jinping expressed his willingness to advance U.S.-China relations "from a new starting point," as reported by Beijing's foreign ministry. "President Xi pointed out that it is natural for two big countries with different national conditions to have some disagreements," the ministry's release stated. The emphasis was placed on mutual respect for core interests and major concerns and finding appropriate solutions to disagreements.

The conversation also touched upon the sensitive Taiwan issue, with Xi emphasizing that it pertains to "China's sovereignty and territorial integrity." He urged the U.S. to handle the matter "with prudence." Additionally, Xi described the economic relationship between the U.S. and China as "essentially mutually beneficial and win-win," stressing that confrontation and conflict should be avoided by both nations.
