Washington: U.S. President Donald Trump announced that he has accepted an invitation from Chinese President Xi Jinping to visit Beijing in April. In return, Xi is expected to make a state visit to the United States later in the year. The announcement came after the leaders engaged in phone talks.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Trump communicated through a social media post that the relationship between the U.S. and China is "extremely strong" following their recent discussions. The phone call was a continuation of their in-person meeting held on October 30 in Busan, South Korea, prior to the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit.

Trump described the conversation with Xi as "very good," noting that a range of topics was covered, including the conflict between Ukraine and Russia, issues surrounding fentanyl, and discussions on soybeans and other agricultural products. He highlighted that both sides achieved "a good and very important" agreement for American farmers.

Trump emphasized that the recent call was a follow-up to what he termed a highly successful meeting in South Korea. He noted significant progress has been made in keeping agreements current and accurate, allowing both sides to focus on larger objectives. Trump expressed his intent to visit Beijing in April and mentioned that President Xi would reciprocate with a state visit to the U.S. later in the year.

The discussions between Trump and Xi also stressed the importance of frequent communication between the leaders. The announcement of Trump's planned visit to Beijing has generated considerable interest in Seoul, amid speculation that it could serve as a platform for Trump to revive his personal diplomacy efforts with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, with whom he has shown openness to re-engage.
