Seoul: Trade Minister Yeo Han-koo met with Thomas Byrne, the President of the Korea Society, in Seoul to explore strategies for enhancing economic cooperation between South Korea and the United States.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the discussions centered around South Korea's commitment to invest $350 billion in the U.S., as part of a bilateral trade agreement. This significant investment is anticipated to bolster supply chain collaboration between the two nations. Last week, a finalized agreement between Seoul and Washington outlined the specifics of this investment in return for reduced U.S. tariffs on South Korean exports.
Minister Yeo emphasized South Korea's role in invigorating the American manufacturing sector and creating jobs through the establishment of new businesses and facilities via direct investments. Furthermore, he sought the Korea Society's assistance in ensuring a stable environment for Korean companies operating stateside. This appeal comes in the wake of an immigration raid involving Korean workers at a battery plant construction site in Georgia in September.
