Seoul: South Korean tour star Yoon Ina is set to make her debut bid for an LPGA Tour membership as the qualifying tournament kicks off Thursday morning in Alabama. Yoon, recognized as the 2004 KLPGA Player of the Year, joins seven other South Korean competitors in a field of 99 players participating in the final stage of the LPGA Q-Series, held at Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at Magnolia Grove in Mobile, Alabama. According to Yonhap News Agency, the stroke-play event will span five days, with the field narrowing down to the top 65 and ties after 72 holes. Players finishing in the top 25 and ties will earn their LPGA cards for the 2025 season. The first four rounds will take place at the Crossings and Falls Course, with the Crossings Course hosting the final round on Monday. Yoon, 21, has had an impressive year, claiming both the money title and the scoring title on the South Korean tour. Known for her powerful drives, she has ascended to No. 30 in the world rankings, having started the year at No. 305. Yoo n aims to become the seventh South Korean to triumph in the qualifying tournament, joining esteemed players such as World Golf Hall of Famer Pak Se-ri, and major champions Kim In-kyung and Lee Jeong-eun. Among the other South Korean contenders this year are Park Kum-kang, who previously secured her LPGA card at the 2022 qualifying tournament but lost her status this year, and Kang Hae-ji, a seasoned 34-year-old who debuted on the LPGA Tour in 2009. The competition also includes four LPGA Tour winners: Bronte Law from England, Pernilla Lindberg from Sweden, Azahara Munoz from Spain, and Sophia Popov from Germany. Miyu Yamashita of Japan, ranked No. 14, is the highest-ranked player in the field this week. The 23-year-old has claimed 13 titles on the Japanese tour and was honored as the Player of the Year, in addition to winning the money titles in both 2022 and 2023. She also competed in all five LPGA majors this year and finished as the runner-up to South Korean Amy Yang at the KPMG Women's PGA Championship in June.
