Seoul: National Security Adviser Wi Sung-lac spoke by phone with his Japanese counterpart Masataka Okano for the first time Friday and agreed to continue close communications, the presidential office said.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Wi and Okano held phone talks for about 15 minutes, marking their first official conversation since President Lee Jae-myung took office earlier this month. The discussion underscored the importance of maintaining a strong line of communication between the two nations.

"The two sides agreed to continue close communications going forward," the presidential office said in a statement, highlighting the commitment from both parties to foster ongoing dialogue.
