London: Taihan Cable and Solution Co., South Korea's second-largest cable company, announced that it has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Ireland-based SuperNode Ltd. to collaboratively develop next-generation superconducting cable technology.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the agreement, signed in London on Tuesday, outlines cooperation between the two companies in the design, manufacturing, and materials technology of advanced superconducting cables. This partnership aims to explore opportunities for joint participation in superconducting cable-related projects on a global scale.

The press release from Taihan Cable highlighted that the collaboration would leverage Taihan's cable manufacturing expertise alongside SuperNode's advanced superconducting design technology, enhancing their position in the high-tech cable market. John Fitzgerald, CEO of SuperNode, emphasized that the partnership would accelerate the commercialization of high-capacity superconducting cables, which are crucial for powering the electrification era, from renewable energy initiatives to data centers.

Headquartered in Dublin, SuperNode specializes in superconducting cable systems that are used in power transmission and data center applications. These superconducting cables utilize materials that exhibit zero electrical resistance below a certain temperature, allowing for much higher transmission efficiency compared to traditional copper or aluminum cables.
