Surion Helicopter Maintenance Training Program Held for Iraqi Mechanics

Seoul: The Army has initiated a training program aimed at educating Iraqi mechanics on the maintenance of South Korea's Surion helicopters, following last year's export deal of the indigenous chopper, officials announced Wednesday. The program is part of an effort to enhance defense cooperation between the two nations.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the five-day training, which is set to conclude on Friday, involves 12 Iraqi mechanics who will receive guidance on maintaining the Korean Utility Helicopter (KUH), known as Surion helicopters. This initiative follows South Korea's successful 136 billion-won (approximately US$97.5 million) export agreement with Iraq for the Surion helicopters, finalized in December.

The Army has expressed its intention to support similar training programs tailored to countries purchasing South Korean arms and equipment. This strategy is part of a broader effort to expand defense cooperation, as stated by officials. The training program underscores South Korea's commitment to fostering international partnerships in defense and technology.
