Seoul: The Supreme Court has upheld a lower court's decision to acquit a senior prosecutor who was indicted for conspiring with an opposition lawmaker in 2020 to file complaints against figures from the then ruling party. The ruling was handed down to Son Jun-sung, the deputy chief prosecutor of the Daegu High Prosecutors Office. This ruling comes after a previous court of appeals found him not guilty of leaking official secrets and violating the personal information protection law in the political meddling case.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Son Jun-sung, who had previously served as an aide to then Prosecutor General Yoon Suk Yeol, was charged in mid-2022. He faced accusations of secretly collaborating with People Power Party Representative Kim Woong just before the April 2020 general elections. The allegations involved filing complaints against three pro-government figures related to their purported involvement in negative news reports concerning Yoon's wife.

The Seoul Central District Court initially sentenced Son to one year in prison in January 2024. However, the Seoul High Court later acquitted him in December of the same year, citing insufficient evidence to support the charges.
