Jeju Island: The southern island of Jeju is set to experience heavy rains starting Thursday, marking the onset of the annual monsoon season across the nation, as reported by the state weather agency.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) has forecasted that a stationary front will move to the sea south of Jeju, resulting in rain on the island beginning Thursday. The island is expected to see heavy rainfall ranging from 20 to 40 millimeters per hour starting Friday night.

The KMA further stated that the stationary front will shift eastward, with the southern regions experiencing heavy rain due to the influx of hot and humid air from the south. Rainfall is expected to commence in South Jeolla Province and South Gyeongsang Province early Friday morning, reach North Jeolla Province by late Friday morning, southern North Gyeongsang Province by late Friday afternoon, and the central province of Chungcheong by night.

The weather agency noted that the rain would extend nationwide, including the Seoul metropolitan area, by early Saturday morning. The anticipated cumulative rainfall through Saturday includes 50-100 mm on Jeju, 30-80 mm in Busan, 20-80 mm in Gwangju, 10-40 mm in Daejeon, and 5-20 mm in the capital area.
