Seoul: Ryoo Seung-wan, director of the upcoming spy action film "Humint," revealed that the film was specifically developed around actors Zo In-sung and Park Jeong-min. At a press conference in Seoul, Ryoo, known for previous works such as "Veteran" (2015), "The Battleship Island" (2017), and "I, the Executioner" (2024), explained that his past collaborations with the two actors in the 2023 crime action film "Smugglers" inspired the creation of "Humint."
According to Yonhap News Agency, Ryoo's new project marks his third collaboration with Zo, following their work on "Escape from Mogadishu" (2021) and "Smugglers" (2023). "Humint," an abbreviation for human intelligence, follows the journey of Mr. Cho (Zo), a national intelligence officer who travels to Vladivostok, Russia, to dismantle an international crime syndicate. The film also features North Korean intelligence officer Park Gun (Park) and introduces Chae Sun-hwa (Shin Se-kyung), a mysterious woman at a North Korean restaurant, along with Hwang Chi-sung (Park Hae-joon), a North Korean officer in conflict with Park Gun.
The director emphasized that the movie is laden with "entertainment and tension," and praised the actors' abilities to convey emotional depth. Park Jeong-min hinted at intricate action sequences that mirror his character's emotional struggles, describing his role as being central to the film's emotional narrative. "Audiences will see a person at their breaking point," Park noted, highlighting an aspect of his acting he had not explored before.
Shot in Latvia, "Humint" continues Ryoo's tradition of filming spy action movies overseas, following "The Berlin File" (2014) and "Escape from Mogadishu" (2021). Zo In-sung promised that the film would feature exotic landscapes alongside intense performances, stating that Ryoo's expertise in directing action sequences demands a high level of intensity and commitment from the actors. "Humint" is scheduled for release on February 11.
