Special Counsel Team Probes CEO in Sambu Construction Stock Manipulation Case

Seoul: A special counsel team said Friday it is questioning the head of an unnamed company as part of its investigation into stock price manipulation allegations involving mid-sized builder Sambu Construction Co. and former first lady Kim Keon Hee.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the team, led by special counsel Min Joong-ki, announced during a press briefing that a search and seizure operation at Sambu Construction's office and other related locations concluded at 11 p.m. on Thursday. A company CEO connected to the case was summoned earlier on Friday for questioning.

Assistant special prosecutor Oh Jeong-hee stated during a regular press briefing, "We plan to analyze the confiscated materials and question those linked to the case as swiftly as possible." Oh added that the team will investigate whether the relocation of Sambu Construction's office was intended to destroy evidence.

Kim Keon Hee, the wife of former President Yoon Suk Yeol, is suspected of being involved in the manipulation of Sambu stock prices. She is also accused of accepting a luxury handbag and meddling in election nominations, among other allegations.

Oh mentioned that the special counsel team's investigation into these additional allegations is ongoing, utilizing warrants to track bank accounts and conducting interrogations. However, Oh declined to comment on any plans to summon the former first lady. "There have been no consultations (with Kim's side) regarding a summons," Oh said, adding, "We haven't received any calls, nor have we placed any."
