Special Counsel Summons Former President Yoon in Corruption Probe

Seoul: A special counsel team announced on Wednesday that it has summoned former President Yoon Suk Yeol for questioning regarding alleged corruption cases involving his wife, Kim Keon Hee. The questioning is scheduled for later this month.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the special counsel team led by Min Joong-ki sent the summons notice to the head of the Seoul Detention Center on the previous day. Yoon has been ordered to appear for questioning at 10 a.m. on November 26, as stated by assistant special counsel Kim Hyeong-geun during a press briefing.

This summons marks what would be Yoon's first appearance since the investigation into the former first lady commenced in July under Min's team. Yoon is alleged to have colluded with his wife on several issues, including meddling in candidate nominations for elections with a political broker. Additionally, Kim Keon Hee is suspected of receiving a painting by the renowned artist Lee Ufan in return for supporting a former prosecutor's parliamentary bid.

Yoon, who is currently in custody facing trial over his unsuccessful attempt to impose martial law in December, had previously avoided two summonses issued by Min's team in July.
