Special Counsel Requests Live Broadcast of Ex-President Yoon’s Trial

Seoul: A special counsel team petitioned a court on Wednesday to permit live broadcasts of former President Yoon Suk Yeol's new trial, which revolves around charges linked to his unsuccessful attempt to impose martial law.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Yoon is currently on trial for allegedly orchestrating an insurrection through his martial law attempt in December. He is scheduled to appear for the initial hearing of his second trial at the Seoul Central District Court on Friday. Following this hearing, Yoon is expected to attend a separate session at the same court concerning his bail request.

Assistant special counsel Park Ji-young revealed during a press briefing that the application for live broadcasts was submitted after thorough consideration of the public's right to be informed. The new trial encompasses charges of infringing upon the rights of Cabinet members and formulating a revised proclamation subsequent to the martial law declaration, among other allegations.

The special counsel's request is to ensure that both hearings on Friday are broadcasted live.
