Special Counsel Requests Live Broadcast for Former President Yoon’s Trial

Seoul: A special counsel has requested the live broadcast of the second hearing of former President Yoon Suk Yeol’s new trial, which is scheduled later this week, judicial officials confirmed on Wednesday. The request mirrors a similar appeal for the first hearing, which was approved by the court.

According to Yonhap News Agency, special counsel Cho Eun-suk’s team submitted the broadcast request to the Seoul Central District Court on Tuesday. The request comes ahead of the hearing slated for Thursday. Yoon is facing charges related to an attempt to impose martial law, which reportedly involved leading an insurrection.

Yoon participated in the initial hearing of this second trial last Friday. This session was broadcast live after the court granted the request put forth by Cho’s team. The new trial involves charges of violating the rights of Cabinet members and creating a revised proclamation following the martial law declaration.

The former president has been in custody since his second arrest on July 10, as his legal battles continue to unfold.
