South Korean Won Strengthens Against U.S. Dollar Amid Local Exporter Dollar Sales

Seoul:The South Korean won strengthened against the U.S. dollar on Friday, bolstered by dollar sales from local exporters.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the won was quoted at 1,334.3 per dollar at 330 p.m., marking an increase of 2.5 won from the previous stock trading session's close. During afternoon trading, the won reached a high of 1,333.6 per dollar.

The weakness of the dollar on global currency markets was attributed to a decline in U.S. Treasury yields and rising oil prices. Meanwhile, foreign investors sold a net 1.62 trillion won (approximately US$1.2 billion) worth of local shares during the latest trading session. The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index fell by 3.48 percent to close at 5,730.74.
