South Korean Trade Minister Yeo Han-koo to Attend WTO Ministerial Conference in Cameroon

Yaounde: South Korean Trade Minister Yeo Han-koo will attend the 14th Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organization (WTO) later this week as the government's top representative, his office announced Monday. The conference, scheduled from Thursday to Sunday, will serve as the organization's highest decision-making body, bringing together representatives from more than 160 member countries.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the South Korean delegation will comprise approximately 30 officials from the trade ministry, the foreign ministry, and other relevant agencies. Minister Yeo is set to take on the role of "coordinator" for the WTO reform sessions, where he will personally chair four meetings focused on mediating differences among member countries and fostering consensus to achieve concrete outcomes.

Delegates at the conference are anticipated to engage in intensive discussions aimed at restoring the WTO's functions and reforming its institutions. South Korea is determined to play a pivotal role in guiding these reform discussions, aiming to move beyond mere participation to actively shaping the organization's future, as stated by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Resources.
