South Korean PM Anticipates Stable US Relations Post Midterm Elections

Seoul:Prime Minister Han Seong-sook expressed confidence that the alliance between South Korea and the United States will remain stable following the Republican Party's defeat in the recent U.S. midterm elections. Han noted that both U.S. political parties value the Korea-U.S. alliance, suggesting no significant changes in bilateral relations are expected.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Han made these remarks during a parliamentary budget committee meeting. She emphasized the importance of analyzing the Democratic Party's stronger-than-expected victory and mentioned that relevant ministries are currently reviewing Seoul's diplomatic strategy toward Washington.

The South Korean presidential office echoed this sentiment, underscoring the enduring nature of the alliance. Presidential spokesperson Kang Yu-jung stated that the alliance, which has been robust for over 70 years, is unlikely to be impacted by election results. Kang also indicated that the South Korean government plans to maintain close communication and cooperation with both the U.S. administration and Congress to further develop the alliance.

Furthermore, Kang highlighted that South Korea intends to continue investment projects in the U.S., initially agreed upon with the Trump administration. These investments will be assessed under principles focused on national interests, commercial reasonableness, and adherence to relevant procedures.
