South Korean Bobsleigh Team Aims for Olympic Glory After World Cup Success

Incheon: South Korean bobsleigh pilot Kim Jin-su and his four-man team recently celebrated a significant achievement, securing a World Cup bronze medal on the renowned Italian track set to host the upcoming Winter Olympics. The team, comprising Kim, pushmen Kim Sun-wook and Kim Hyeong-geun, and brakeman Lee Geon-u, reached the podium for the first time in the four-man bobsleigh event at the International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation (IBSF) World Cup in Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Kim expressed mixed emotions upon returning to South Korea, acknowledging the team's success but emphasizing the need for further improvement. "We were elated when we won that bronze medal in Cortina d'Ampezzo, but we also wished that competition were the Olympics," Kim stated at Incheon International Airport. He emphasized the team's commitment to refining their skills and striving for a flawless performance at the Olympics.

Despite their initial success, Kim's team faced challenges in subsequent World Cup races, finishing seventh, sixth, and 14th. The dominant presence of German teams, with Johannes Lochner, Francesco Friedrich, and Adam Ammour as pilots, demonstrated the level of competition, with multiple podium finishes and victories among them.

Kim remains focused on mastering the Cortina d'Ampezzo track, believing that perfecting their strategy there will be crucial for Olympic success. As the Winter Olympics approach, the South Korean team continues to work diligently, hoping to achieve their goal of an ideal performance on the world stage.
