Seoul: South Korea's military has expressed strong disapproval of North Korea's persistent deployment of trash-filled balloons into South Korean territory. The military described these actions as a severe provocation and warned that North Korea would bear full responsibility for any ensuing consequences. According to Yonhap News Agency, the Joint Chiefs of Staff's deputy spokesperson, Col. Nam Gi-su, issued a statement on Monday addressing North Korea's actions. He emphasized that North Korea's behavior was crossing a significant boundary and reiterated the South's stern warning that any future developments would be North Korea's responsibility. He also urged North Korea not to test the patience of South Korea's military further. This condemnation follows North Korea's launch of over 7,000 trash-laden balloons across the border, an effort that began in late May. The balloon campaign, a retaliatory move against anti-Pyongyang propaganda leaflets sent by South Korean activists, resumed after a three-week paus e early on Monday. The previous month's balloon launch saw some balloons, which included leaflets critical of South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol and first lady Kim Keon Hee, land within the presidential compound.
