Nagoya:South Korea's soft tennis team concluded its medal campaign at the ongoing Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, securing three bronze medals after falling short in the singles events on Wednesday.

According to Yonhap News Agency, in the men's singles quarterfinals held at Nagoya City Higashiyama Park Tennis Center, Lee Ha-neul of South Korea was defeated 4-2 by Che Po-yi of Chinese Taipei. Lee managed to tie the match at 2-2 after four games but ultimately lost the next two games, missing the opportunity to advance to the semifinals.

In the women's singles quarterfinals, South Korea's Lee Su-jin was defeated 4-2 by Japan's Rena Temma, while Hwang Jeong-mi lost 4-2 to North Korea's Ri Jin-mi. Lee Su-jin initially lost three consecutive games to Temma but managed to win two games before being eliminated. Meanwhile, Hwang leveled her match at 2-2 after losing the first two games but was unable to progress as Ri won the subsequent two games to secure her semifinal place.

Ri Jin-mi's advancement assured North Korea a bronze medal, as soft tennis awards bronzes to both semifinal losers without a separate bronze-medal match. Another North Korean player, Ri So-hyang, also reached the women's singles semifinals by defeating Thailand's Alisha Ziegler 4-2, earning another bronze for North Korea.

These achievements marked North Korea's first medals at the Asian Games in Japan. South Korea's three bronze medals came from the men's and women's team events and the mixed doubles, concluding their participation in the soft tennis competition.
