London: Son Heung-min, four months after departing Tottenham Hotspur, had his chance to say a heartfelt goodbye to the club's supporters as he delivered an emotional speech at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium before a match.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Son, dressed in a gray coat and black muffler, was warmly welcomed by fans ahead of the UEFA Champions League match against SK Slavia Praha. This marked his first return to the stadium since moving to Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC) in August. Son concluded his Spurs tenure with a final appearance in Seoul against Newcastle United before transitioning to Major League Soccer.
During his decade with Tottenham, Son, 33, achieved remarkable feats, including winning the Premier League Golden Boot in the 2021-2022 season with 23 goals and leading the team to a UEFA Europa League title this year. Son ranks fifth on Tottenham's all-time scoring list with 173 goals over 454 matches.
In his farewell speech, Son expressed deep gratitude, stating, "It's been an amazing 10 years, guys. It's been an incredible 10 years. I just want to say thank you. I will be always Spurs and I will always be with you. This will always be my home." He received a golden cockerel from club legend Ledley King and bid farewell with gestures of appreciation to the fans.
The evening also saw Tottenham defeat SK Slavia Praha 3-0. Additionally, Tottenham commemorated Son with a mural on Tottenham High Road, showcasing his signature goal celebration and a depiction of him with the Europa League trophy. The mural includes the words, "Sonny, Spurs Legend," and Son expressed his gratitude for the tribute on social media, hoping to be remembered as both a good player and human being.
