Seoul: Unionized workers at SK hynix Inc. are on the verge of initiating an integrated labor union with the aim of securing more than half of the company's employees to obtain majority status, industry sources revealed Wednesday. A preparatory task force is poised to submit an application to establish the integrated union and officially launch it as early as Wednesday, according to these sources.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the emerging union targets to enlist approximately 18,000 of SK hynix's estimated 35,000 employees to attain majority-union status. Presently, three distinct labor unions engage in negotiations with management independently. The task force, which currently acts as an interim body for the integrated union, was voluntarily created by employees and will continue to function until an official union leader and executive committee are elected.

'Bringing together the voices of employees across job categories and regions and creating a majority union is our top priority,' the task force stated. 'We aim to establish a union in which all members have equal voting rights and make decisions directly, rather than one centered on delegates.' The union has also pinpointed performance-based compensation as a pivotal issue.

Furthermore, the union is contemplating forming an alliance with the largest labor union at Samsung Electronics Co., SK hynix's competitor in the chipmaking sector, according to industry sources.
