SK hynix Unveils Ambitious Vision to Enhance AI Ecosystem Engagement

Seoul: SK hynix Inc.'s CEO, Kwak Noh-jung, announced the company's strategic shift towards a deeper engagement in the artificial intelligence (AI) ecosystem, emphasizing a transition from being a mere supplier to a "creator" of AI chips. The initiative aims to strengthen ties with clients and address challenges collaboratively.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Kwak articulated this new vision as a commitment to becoming a "full-stack AI memory creator." This reflects the company's dedication to expanding its influence within the AI ecosystem, prioritizing enhanced client communication and joint problem-solving efforts. He stated that SK hynix has historically focused on timely delivery of high-quality products, but now aims to elevate its role beyond just providing components.

Kwak highlighted the evolving significance of memory chips, noting that they have transformed from simple components to critical value products. As a result, the expectations for their performance have increased, necessitating novel approaches. He emphasized the importance of expanding partnerships with key industry players such as Nvidia Corp., TSMC, and OpenAI to foster synergies and innovate through collaboration.

During the announcement, Kwak also shared SK hynix's strategic roadmap for its high bandwidth memory (HBM) products. The company plans to commence the supply of 16-layer HBM4 and HBM4E products with eight, 12, and 16 layers in 2026. Furthermore, SK hynix aims to introduce HBM5 and HBM5E between 2029 and 2031.
