Singer Yoon Hyung-ju to Sing “Our Story” in Fiji
1. As part of public diplomacy to promote harmony between the peoples of the ROK and Fiji through music, the ROK Embassy in the Republic of Fiji will invite Korean singer Yoon Hyung-ju to Fiji and hold events to introduce Korean songs in Nadi on August 9 and in Suva on August 13.
2. At the events, singer Yoon Hyung-ju, who translated “Isa Lei,” Fiji’s traditional song, into a Korean version “Our Story” about 40 years ago, will introduce Korean songs, as well as “Our Story.” The events will also feature traditional Korean dance and saxophone performances by Korean artists and students residing in Fiji, as well as performances by the University of the South Pacific (USP) choir, which is well-known in Fiji.
3. The upcoming events, where “Isa Lei (Our Story),” a song shared by the peoples of the ROK and Fiji, will be sung, aim to promote friendship between the two countries’ peoples through music, the common language of the world. Building on such emotional bond and common understanding, the events are expected to contribute significantly to improving the ROK-Fiji relations.
o The events will bring together some 500 people, including government officials and people of Fiji and Koreans living there, as well as diplomatic corps and officials of international organizations in the country. The events will be broadcast in all Pacific Island countries by local broadcasters, thereby helping promote Korean culture in the Pacific region.
