According to Yonhap News Agency, Bosung College, which later became Korea University, was founded in 1905 in Seoul. This institution has played a pivotal role in shaping higher education in South Korea. In 1946, the country celebrated Children's Day for the first time since its prohibition by the Japanese colonial regime from 1910 to 1945. The celebration was moved to May 5 from the first Sunday in May, symbolizing a revival of cultural traditions post-colonial rule.

In 1951, the South Korean government promulgated the Children's Charter, reinforcing the importance of children's rights and welfare in the nation. Fast forward to 1983, a Chinese passenger airplane hijacked during a domestic flight between Shenyang and Shanghai made an emergency landing in Chuncheon, Gangwon Province, marking a significant event in the region's aviation history.

The year 1992 saw the seventh meeting of senior officials from South and North Korea opening in Seoul, signifying ongoing efforts for dialogue and reconciliation between the two nations. In the literary world, 2008 marked the passing of Park Kyung-ni, one of South Korea's most esteemed contemporary writers. Her epic novel, "The Land," is celebrated as a masterpiece and is part of the UNESCO Collection of Representative Works.

In technological advancements, 2017 witnessed the successful launch of Mugunghwa-7, South Korea's fourth telecommunications satellite, furthering the nation's presence in space technology. The following year, in 2018, North Korea aligned its time zone with South Korea, moving its clock forward by 30 minutes. This move was an effort to facilitate inter-Korean reconciliation. Additionally, the same year saw South and North Korea completing the removal of loudspeakers blaring propaganda messages across the Demilitarized Zone, as part of the Panmunjom Declaration, a significant step towards peace and cooperation between the two Koreas.
