Shinsegae unveils its first independent hotel in Seoul

SEOUL, Shinsegae Chosun Hotel, the accommodation arm of South Korean retail giant Shinsegae Group, unveiled its new boutique hotel brand in downtown Seoul on Tuesday.

The launch of the L'Escape, planned for next month, will mark the business group's first operation of an independent hotel brand. Shinsegae Chosun currently runs Westin Chosun hotels in Seoul and Busan, along with Four Points by Sheraton in the capital.

The new hotel, with 204 rooms of 10 types, was designed under the concept of a "Parisian Escape in the heart of Seoul," in collaboration with French interior designer Jacques Garcia, the company said.

Shinsegae has tapped Kim Bum-soo as the general manager of the hotel. Kim, better known as a food blogger with tens of thousands of followers here, joined the business group in 2011.

"We wanted to go more classic in terms of hardware while pursuing the most up-to-date trends in terms of content," Kim said. "We hope L'Escape will become a place where locals and foreigners can mingle together."
