Services Of Top Players Needed For Tough Encounter – Doubles Coach
KUNSHAN, May 18 (Bernama) - The Malaysian squad will have to use the services of the top two doubles pair, for the quarter-final of the Thomas Cup tournament Thursday.
Doubles coach Jeremy Gan said the services of the experienced players, who may be again be split, are much needed when facing a difficult situation.
"It is risky (to play Teo Ee Yi/Ong Yew Sin) because we have reached the critical stage.
"The services of experienced players are important unless somebody is hurt," he this when asked about the third doubles pair who have yet to see action in the Thomas Cup tournament.
Gan said the decision whether to split the two doubles pair was part of the strategy and will be made after seeing the draw later tonight.
The top two pair of Goh V Shem/Tan Wee Kiong and Koo Kien Keat/ Tan Boon Heong had to be split in the meeting with South Korea.
The strategy worked as Malaysia went on to beat South Korea 3-2.
Meanwhile, singles coach Hendrawan was satisfied with the performance of Datuk Lee Chong Wei, Iskandar Zulkarnain Zainuddin, Chong Wei Feng and Goh Soon Huat.
"They put up a stable performance despite the strong opposition. From what I can see, they have strong fighting spirit," he added.
Malaysia are top of Group C after beating England 4-1, Germany 5-0 and South Korea 3-2.
With this, Malaysia managed to avoid tough opponents in the quarter-final.
