Seoul: Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon has been sentenced by a Seoul district court to a fine of 10 million won (approximately US$6,750) for accepting illegal political funds. This verdict is linked to opinion poll results that Oh obtained prior to the 2021 mayoral by-election.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the Seoul Central District Court delivered the sentence following an indictment by special counsel Min Joong-ki's team, which charged Oh in December with violating the Political Funds Act. The law mandates that elected officials lose their positions if they receive a finalized fine of 1 million won or more for breaches of the Political Funds Act.

The indictment by Min's team alleged that a political supporter of Oh made payments for the opinion poll results that Oh reportedly received on ten occasions from Myung Tae-kyun, a self-proclaimed power broker. These events took place ahead of the April 2021 by-election, which Oh subsequently won.
