Seoul: The Seoul government held an emergency meeting with major home appliance makers here Friday to discuss possible responses to the U.S. plan to subject home appliances to the 50 percent tariffs on steel derivative imports, ministry officials said. The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy held the meeting with officials from major home appliance makers, including Samsung Electronics Co. and LG Electronics Inc.

According to Yonhap News Agency, U.S. President Donald Trump's administration published a new notice of its decision to add refrigerators, washing machines, dryers, and other items to the list of derivatives subject to a 50 percent steel tariff, starting June 23. The industry ministry said it will work to come up with support measures to help local companies affected by the new U.S. tariff scheme and also continue communicating with the local industry to devise potential responses.
