Seoul: A Seoul court announced on Friday that it will conduct a hearing next week to determine whether to extend the arrest of former Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun. Kim is accused of being involved in ex-President Yoon Suk Yeol's brief imposition of martial law.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the Seoul Central District Court scheduled the hearing for 2:30 p.m. on Monday. The court will decide whether to issue a new arrest warrant for Kim, who has been detained since December. Kim is currently on trial for charges related to insurrection concerning the martial law attempt.

Independent counsel Cho Eun-suk filed a request for a new arrest warrant earlier this week, as Kim's current six-month detention period is set to expire next Thursday, which would lead to his unconditional release. In addition to the original charges, Cho has now indicted Kim on fresh charges, including obstruction of official duties and abetting the destruction of evidence.

Kim's defense team has requested a change of the hearing date, arguing that "the hearing should proceed after the lawful delivery of the indictment and inspection of recorded evidence."
