Nagoya: South Korea's Seong Seung-min has successfully advanced to the women's modern pentathlon final at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, securing a second-place finish in her semifinal group on Thursday.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Seong accumulated 1,365 points to claim the second spot in Group A. She competed in five challenging events, which included fencing, swimming, obstacle course racing, and the laser run-a combination of running and shooting-at Anjo Sports Park, located southeast of Nagoya, the primary host city. The semifinal round saw 33 athletes divided into two groups, with the top nine from each group earning a place in the final set for Sunday.

Seong is recognized as a leading contender for the gold medal. Her impressive track record includes winning the 2024 World Modern Pentathlon Championships, making her the first South Korean woman to achieve a world title in the event. Additionally, she became the first Asian female pentathlete to win an Olympic medal at the Paris Summer Olympics.

As the Asian Games officially open on Saturday, Seong aims to secure South Korea's first gold medal of the event. Alongside her, three other South Korean athletes have also progressed to the final. Shin Su-min finished sixth in Group A, while Jang Ha-eun and Kim Un-ju secured seventh and eighth places in Group B, respectively.
